Chariton Valley Beef

Background

Chariton Valley Beef is an orginazation that was started by producers working with Iowa State University Extension and economic development leaders seeking to add value to the beef industry in southern Iowa. The producers are partnering with other groups in Iowa to build a database on the carcass, performance, and health attributes of cattle raised in the region. Producers in 18 counties are participating in this project. CVB is now a nonprofit corporation with a 501(c)(5) status. There are well over 200 producers with information in the CVB database. Many of these producers have participated in several of our activities at CVB. Our activities are focused on finding new value-added programs for cattle producers in our area, and educating producers on how to take advantage of opportunities currently available.
